SKARINS

Skarins are a semi-closed species belonging to the company Intergalactic Stoat Studios, you can find out more about us and what we do on our website

Skarins,
*** Lumina Caelum***

Description

The Lumina Caelum, more commonly know as Skarins, have a range of bodily figures with each rank of the species having a more pronounced feature. They have long, agile bodies made for runing through the large forests of planet Zerona.Between 4 to 6 long spines have been observed to be on the back of Skarins that to the touch feel similar to fins that of dolphins with a line layer of fuzz covering them, along with antenna on the head and more spines/fins presented like the Bird of Paradise flowers. All the Spines (tail and back) and Antenna give out a glow, similar to Bioluminescence fish. The main fur coat ranges in colours, depending on what kind of Skarin it is. The ones from Acer tend to have darker coats while Unis Skarins have lighter coloured main coat. The spines will usually change from either of the two breeds, meaning both dark and light pelted breeds can have either dark or light coloured spines. This is believed to have something to do with how the ancestors all lived in the same area on a combination land of both Unis and Acer, but a few packs must have moved to Acer once it broke off. Switching land masses everynow and then, before Acer moved too far away for them to move freely without having to swim long distances.

Young/Eggs

Skarins hatch from eggs after incubating for 27 - 30 days (36 - 40 Earth days). Skarin aren't known for being the best parent but they will keep the eggs protected until they have hatched, keeping and training their young for around 30 days (45 Earth Days) before they are expected to either help with the pack or leave for another pack or be a lone/rouge Skarin.Fur on newly hatched Skarin kits will be similar to a soft velvet covering and dull in colours such as grey (sometimes molted), dark greens and browns. Once they start to reach maturity, Skarin kits fur patterns will have been shedding through and the fins will have started growing. The fins are usually the last and longest thing to finish growing.

Location

They are native to two land masses on Zerona, Acer and Unis. Our scientists have found that when the two moons are on the full moon stage, that the activity around NeFlume Lake area on Unis is 30% more than a usual night for the Skarins.

Trivia

Skarin usually reach to the everage age of 30 - 42 years (40 - 55 Earth years) in the wild, and have been observed to live to 55 years (70 Earth years) in captivity. The size of the average Skarin sits at around 3 foot on all fours and six to seven feet on hind legs.Skarin are mainly diurnal, choosing to hunt in the later hours of the day and late evening. With the use of their tail, the can blend it into the natural surrounding flora (which glows and looks like its tail) to attract prey to come close into attack range. The blending in of surroundings can also work as a camouflage technique for when hiding from predators or other Skarins. The diet of Skarins usually consists of fresh meat, as they are carnivorous animals and cannot eat vegetation. They are usually hunters that will kill their prey, but lone Skarin can be scavengers for survival and eat already killed prey.

Ranks and Gender

These creatures are small pack to lone animals, the pack usually ranging at around three to five members, not including the kits that the pack may or may not have.
The ranks in a Skarin pack are similar to that of old time wolf packs back on Earth, except they usually present what rank they are at one and a half years (two Earth years) of age.
The following shows what Ranks Dr Hallewell and her assistant L. Heinrich have observed with our captive four.
• Alpha •
These are the dominant pack leader who is generally the largest and the leader of most hunts, they also rely on their betas for aid.
• Beta •
These are the second in command in packs and are usually slightly smaller than the alpha, helping their alpha with hunts and pack role promotions. If there are more then one or they find a compatible mate from a rogue or different pack, betas can breed with others of their rank.
• Epsilon •
The pack hunters, these are the ones who help keep the food stores in check. This is the rank that is most common in the ratio of other ranks.
• Omega •
This rank is usually the 'weaker' of the group, though these are respected as they are the only ones allowed to mate with alphas and are an important member of the pack, if a pack has one. These help to keep the peace in the pack and look after sick or injured skarins, as well as kits.
Since pack numbers average in between four to six, the number for roles us usually :
▪︎ One Alpha
▪︎ One to Two Betas (usually mates)
▪︎ One to Three Epsilons
▪︎ One Omega if lucky
When breeding season rolls around, any packs will become a lot more territorial and will be more likely to attack any lone Skarin.
With breeding, I decided myseld not to put the details on here rather from what Dr Hallewell suggested. To cut it short, the Rank usually defines their second gender. Meaning if the Skarin is a Male Alpha it will only have Male parts, but with a Male Omega, it will have both Male and Female parts. This is quite weird, but not so much as with the Komaos.
The reproductive parts of Skarin are usually not out on display as with some earth animals, they rely more on fin display to attract mates such as birds with their feathers.
In the wild, gender ratios for Skarin are unknown at the moment as we haven't explored all of Zerona, but Dr Hallewell has said that the discovered ratios are four females to every three males - 4f : 3m. In captivity, we have three in total, one female (beta) and two males (beta and omega) in the same habitat and found that it leaves all of them comfortable with each other.A weird addition that Alpha born Skarins have, is a floating stone-like shape on the end of their tails. Dr Hallewell has proposed the idea that it has something to do with how males are always more 'grand and showoffs' than females on Earth, so the alpha serve as the male counterpart in this situation.
How it stays there? We're not entirely sure how it works, but it's been thought to do something with the planet's surface and gravity levels.
End of report.

Rules

• They are a semi-open species, which means that to be made as an official skarin, you must show me your design and if it meets the rules, I will add it to the zerona world. This officiates all original species of that world. Traits that are above common are not allowed unless purchased.• If you have a Skarin offsite, tell me when you resell it so I can update the official owner list. If you have bought a skarin in the past and would like to add it to toyhouse, please send me a message.• Do not heavily edit designs from me (without permission).• Do not take or sell Skarins offsite.• If you no longer want to keep your Skarin, you can submit back the character and I will refund you half of what you paid me (or full depending on if there are art pieces attached to it), you can also resell as stated above.• Note that I will need your contact info on other sites, just incase you leave toyhouse but is not necessary to adopt or own a skarin. If I cannot contact you within 1 year of you dissapearing, I will have to put your skarin in "inactive" and you will be changed to inactive owner.• Purchasing a Skarin that uses one of the bases I have provided means that when I make a new set of bases, you get a new ref for free!

Q and A

Q. Are they feral or anthro?Generally, they are a feral species but in the case of roleplays or fursuits or plushies, yes, they can be anthro and stand on their hind legs.
.
Q. What Clothing and Colours are allowed?Any colours and markings are allowed as long as they are not discriminatory, as well as the same for clothing and accessories.
.
Q. Where and how do I get one of these? These can be either bought as adopts, bought from people selling theirs, order MYO/custom ones, or make a common one yourself (see rules).
I will only make a few per year so make sure to keep an eye out for one if you are interested.
.
Q. What if I want a custom but can't afford to pay the extra? You can submit ideas, moodboards, or colour palettes in DMs. I can then use these to make adopts, technically these arent custom ordered but there is the chance someone could adopt the design before you can

Make Your Own (MYO)

MYO Adopts mean you can use any traits of the rarity you buy and any rarities below it (if you buy a rare myo, you can use rare, uncommon, and common traits and ranks). Any traits you want to add that are from a higher rarity level, you will have to pay the fee price per trait as listed under the Trait Addition Prices.
